Children's Room Toys

Toys in the children's room will be available only for supervised library programs until further notice due to damage.

Until the SBCPL has a Youth Services Librarian who can be in the Children's Room on a regular basis, the toys will only be available for specific programs or if a member of staff can be in the room to supervise while the toys are out. While we know this change will disappoint many of our patrons, we had to come to this decision after discovering the damage done to several of the toys over the last few months while we were cleaning and sorting the toys over the last three weeks. The toys in the library were donated by patrons or purchased with grant funding or donations, and the Library's budget does not allow us to replace those toys when they are broken or missing. So, to have any toys for patrons, we will have to limit their availability to prevent further damage and loss. Play is an integral part of learning, and having the toys in the Children's Room was one of our goals. When the toys are out, we ask that they be treated respectfully and that any damage or breakage is reported immediately to a member of staff.
