Friends of the Library Council Report
Our community gathered with the Friends of the Library to support our library. The Library Annual Author’s Luncheon in October was both informative and entertaining. Stephen Hines shared his books and research about the Titanic. We were introduced to many interesting facts that most people do not know about the crew, passengers, design and construction of the ship as well as the sinking of the Titanic. Whether table sponsors or purchasers of individual tickets, your support of this annual fundraiser, the Library Annual Autor’s Luncheon, is greatly appreciated.
The money raised from the luncheon will be used toward purchasing needed shelving and furnishings for our youth and young adult reading areas. We will continue working with this area until completed which thanks to the generosity of those attending and sponsoring tables at the luncheon is well on its way!
Just as the title of the council implies, the Friends of the Library supports the Shelbyville - Bedford County Public Library by helping with fundraisers, activities the library conducts for the community as well as help meet some of the needs of the Library in order to conduct daily business. It takes a village to raise a family. Our library is an important and vital part of this village. The Friends of the Library, dedicated library staff, dependable volunteers, and loyal patrons work together to serve our community through our library. Being a part of this is a very heartwarming and rewarding role. Many folks have served on the Friends of the library council for several years. We would like to thank those who have dedicated time, efforts, and support in several capacities who are rolling off of the council. Your work has been appreciated! On another note, the Friends of the Library welcomes new members. If you are interested in participating as a member of the Friends of the Library Council, please let any member of the Council know. The council will gear up in the spring for events to support our library. We always welcome new faces!
Until then, curl up with a good book from our library and keep warm! I look forward to seeing you in March!
